Mayshe-Mayshe is the solo project of Yorkshire artist & bedroom-pop producer Alice Rowan. Her music blends dreamy art-pop with rich storytelling, skittering percussion and infectious melodies. Her deceptively simple songwriting – at once universal and deeply personal – incorporates choral vocals, vintage synths and the occasional hairdryer.
The project was born of the unlikely mix of Mayshe’s love for electronica and dance-pop and her lofi approach to making music, resulting in her unique brand of experimental electropop. Her songs explore themes of mental health, nature and folklore, with organic elements woven into all aspects of her music. Rowan’s live performance is a spellbinding experience: a dynamic loop-pedal performance of soft, spare rhythms and intimate vocal harmonies that build into deep oceans of sound.
Mayshe-Mayshe released her debut album Cocoa Smoke in 2018, followed by several singles in 2020 and 2021. Her second studio album is due for release in November 2022. Outside of her solo work, Rowan tours and records as part of Leeds band Living Body. Her most recent Mayshe release, Zachter, was described as “an ethereal plunge into dark electronic realms.”
